About Jack Laskey
Jack Laskey is a 22 year old Cleveland native splitting his time and work between Cleveland and New York City. Jack attended Oberlin College and Conservatory where he studied with renowned performers and educators Dan Wall, Jamey Haddad, Billy Hart and Sanford Margolis at the Oberlin Conservatory. He has also studied with current the current Chair of Composition at the Berklee College of Music, Eric Gould. Jack is also an educator who has been on faculty at the Cleveland Music Settlement and maintains a small studio of private students.
Jack is currently the musical director of the Billy Hart academy, a group headed by the great Billy Hart that performs Billy's compositions and inspirations. Jack's current projects also include a duo with trumpeter Zach Resnick that explores the work of great trumpet/piano duos such as Louis Armstrong and Earl Hines. Solo piano work and composition are also mainstays in Jack's performances.
Jack’s passion for music began at the young age of five when he made a deal with his parents to take piano lessons if they would also pay for his karate lessons. While his interest in karate quickly faded, Jack continued his classical piano studies for another ten years, all the while listening to as much music he could. He started studying jazz at the age of twelve and never turned back. His musical Career has so far included performances with Billy Hart, Benny Golson, Jamey Haddad, Billy Drewes, Bobby Wattson, Ndugu Chancelor, Winard Harper, Matt Brubeck, Dominic Farinacci, Vanessa Ruben, and Ernie Krivda. His music has brought him to venues and festivals such as The All Nite Soul Festival in New York CIty, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola at Lincoln Center, and The Regatta Bar in Boston.
